Brake pedal difference 78 to 93 model
Hey guys, I have a problem. I have a 78 D100 and a 93 W250. The braked pedal in the 93 sits quite a bit higher than the one in the 78. I looked and measured them both. The 93 pedal is a bit shorter and is curved up toward the driver a bit more than the on one the 78. I have an injury that gives me problems with my feet and lower legs. I can drive the 78 quite well, but the 93 pedal being so high makes it difficult to hit the brake, and I am worried I might miss it in a panic situation. I am wondering if a brake pedal from an earlier model like the 78 would be a direct swap. Has anyone else attempted this? I would like to know what year Dodge changed the style of pedal, so I can search for a used one. I am ASSUMIMG it would be when the cab was re-vamped between 80 to 82, but not sure. Anybody know? Have a good used pedal for sale?

The fix might be just a shorter pedal to master pushrod length.

NO. It is a different shape and length of the pedal arm itself.

Pics of the difference. See the curvature at the bottom. Plus the 78 is a bit longer, which drops the pedal down lower.

Well, I bought a pedal from an 80 Ramcharger on ebay and swapped it out in the 93. The Ramcharger pedal is about 3/4" longer than the 93 pedal which moves it closer to the floor. That helps!

Thats good to know.... Was the Bolt size the same for both pedals. Or did you have to modify the pedal hanger?
|
Easy modification. The pedal hangers are the same. However, for the booster push rod, the 93 uses a welded on stud and clip. The 80 uses a special through bolt. That special bolt was too big for the 93 booster rod. However, the hole in the pedal was drilled the right diameter to tap for 5/8 SAE fine threads. I used a 5/8"- grade 8 bolt with washers for spacers to make it work. Threaded the bolt into the tapped hole, and ran a poly lock up the thread to jam it so could NOT loosen up.

Awesome... Glad to hear that worked out for you... I know that feeling of not being able to lift you leg up so high to get to the pedal... Great update and information.... :)
