Help with 75 W100 kickdown linkage

I've been restoring my Dad's 1975 Power Wagon and I am trying to get the transmission kickdown, pedal/throttle travel, and original spring setup proper.

The only way I can have full throttle travel via the pedal is if the carburetor stud rests about the middle of the kickdown oval groove. So you get a bit of throttle movement before the kickdown lever is pushed.

The Chrysler training videos I have watched show the linkage respond 100% with the throttle without play, with the carburetor stud resting all the way to the back of the oval groove for instant movement of the kickdown lever when the pedal is pressed.

Here is a photo my dad took showing how he had it setup. Looks like he has it resting on the front of the stud slot meaning lots of play before the kickdown rod moves?

There should be an additional spring holding it forward. When the kick down linkage is pushed back the stud should just touch the back of the slot at wide open throttle.
