'79 Dodge D100
Bought this one in 79 new off the lot, been parked behind my brother's barn for the last 6 years.
I'm taking it home to TN to start a slow but steady restoration.
I'm sure my questions will be plentiful!
Stand by!

I do have my first question.
The stripes that are on this truck. I can find no other pictures anywhere I have searched of a truck with similar stripes. I know that they are 'Factory' as they were on it when I bought it, and they are listed on the build order I have.

Has anyone else seen similar? I have already made templates of them so if I want them recreated I think I will be able to, just asking for my sanity.

I have never seen them before, at least not that I remember. In the seventies Dodge did some regional things like a Vikings truck that was purpal with white stripes and had there logos on it. So it could be something like that, I know there was a stars and stripe truck also.

Custom Order for sure..... A few Power Wagons had something similar... But not that one as I remember.....

What a beauty !!! gotta love the look of the D100 third Gen !!

I'd like to find one again for a big block I have!

BeatUpOleDodge 03-28-2019 10:47 AM

I cannot really do anything to it yet, I just moved to TN and have a rent house. Looking for a house this fall.
So far I have just replaced all of the Door seals and vent window seals, need to do the actual window seals but the window regulators are hosed and I will get into that soon.

Just keeping up with it to stave off further problems until I can fully get at it.

I will probably just rebuild the 318, I'm old and my time for more HP has passed!

BeatUpOleDodge 04-23-2019 02:45 PM

Okay, I still am not in a position to really start on the truck, but I am doing piddly stuff on the weekends. Last weekend I made a template of the stripes, just in case I want to get them remade. Haven't decided yet.
My question is I am taking care of some of the surface rust and cleaning. What is the best way to remove the stripes. Is there a chemical that works, or just a block and elbow grease?
I have never removed graphics from a vehicle before.

3M has an eraser that goes in a drill that will take decals off with no problems whatsoever including not hurting paint.

I have a 79 that I also bought new from a local dealer as a leftover in 1980. I drove it for a little over 100,000 mi and then turned it into my never ending project. I went a different direction than you and chose to change things. You will find it is time consuming(not to mention $$$) and I hope you get as much pleasure out of working on your's as I do,

That is a good looking truck! Yes, this will be my 'Never ending' project. As soon as I get a place, I will start. It will keep me out of the Nudy bars and sober. I will probably be be replacing or fixing something the day before my funeral.
