Speed master distributor

Just bought a speed master distributor PCE376.1089.01 for my 1977 d100 with a 318. The rotor doesn't line up with the he slot for installation. I pulled everything out aligned with cylinder 1 but now when I install it points at the next firing position.

Sometimes it can be a little difficult to line up the oil pump shaft correctly, just pull it up and try it again, your probably only off one tooth on the cam...

I mean the distributor itself in the picture, the blade doesn't line up with the rotor, I have no problem Installing it at all. But just sitting on the bench the the rotor and the the blade are off a cylinder.

Correct, it’s rare to find an aftermarket distributor that is lined up the same as OEM, you need to turn the intermediate shaft that turns the distributor, you lift it and turn it the direction needed I would go one tooth on the cam gear and set the shaft back down. This will help you with rotor placement.👍

edit: The intermediate shaft is under the distributor, basically it’s driven by the camshaft and it drives the oil pump and distributor. It has a slott on top of it to receive the flat edge of the distributor shaft. When you pull it up it will turn slightly following the gear on the camshaft so lift it just high enough so you can turn it one tooth in the direction you need to align your rotor in your cap. After that drop it back in and install the distributor and see if it lines up as needed, you might have to repeat this process again to get it just right…

Thank you for the detailed reply and I know how to do all that no problem and am very familiar with the internals. I guess I just have been lucky and have had distributor blade line up with the rotor 😂 so I take it is a common problem unfortunately.

The only replacement distributor that I have used that lined up was a Mopar electronic conversion distributor, I’ve had an Accel dual point and several other brands including MSD that were off…

good luck with your project…

Thank you and that's rather disappointing to hear! I tried an HEI conversion before this one but space didn't allow and it lined up perfectly.

Wow.... I have never noticed that.... Id like to see a photo of a side by side of the two of them, if you get a chance to take one.....

I need to put a disclaimer on my information here because 99.99 percent of my experience with Mopars has been with big blocks, in forty years I’ve only had two small blocks and never had a customer with one that I would work on. The big block distributor set up is very similar just at the correct end of the block…:)
