Thanks Challenger!

Because this GTX is not numbers matching or "original", we are going to put our own touches on it! We're going to stick with the Mopar Orange theme on the block. As far as PS pumps and stuff like that go, that will all be glossy black...we also think we may paint the engine bay semi gloss black which will help the motors colors to "pop" when the hood is opened.

We have had all the parts powdercoated, stuff looks SICK!

Just took the motor to my engine builder/machinist. We're looking at about $2000-$2500 for a fully forged short block assembeled. We wanted to reuse the stock forged crank, but because of the damage from crank walk, we may not be able to. Looks like the converter was ballooning which put pressure on the thrust bearing, which in turn wore a pattern into the crank that is similar to a brake rotor that has 120,000 miles on it, nice and concave!

That's ok!

Erik

I agree
if you paint the engine that way, it'll look really cool

here are some pics of the parts that have been powder coated...PS pump, pulleys, timing cover, pan, fan, manifold, h20 pump and housing etcetc. The first pic is basically what the orange looked like...really crappy, oily, and too dark IMO...like a chevy orange. Now it looks HELLA good. Block and heads will be same orange...I cannot wait!

By the way, powdercoating is FAR superior to paint if anyone is wondering. Just look at the PS pump. Looks like I could dip my hand into the thing!

Its sleeping for the winter...I'm not gonna touch it, leaving it stock all the way...to original to mess with. I figure if I want to build something, I'll pick up anon matching 4 speed Roadrunner or something and make it a monster!

hey guys...here is an update as of 2/4/09:

Engine builder and I have decided to go ahead and get a complete forged rotating assembly. The thrust bearing ate a bit too much away from the crank and repairing would not have been worth it.

We are going with some nice stuff- not the most expensive, but not crap either.

Eagle 4340 Forged 440 crank
Eagle H Beam 4340 rods
JE forged pistons
clevite bearings

....and all the other stuff that goes into rebuilding a motor...

We are also boring it out .040" over (as it was already .030" over from a previous rebuild) which will net us a few more cubes For conversation sake though, we will call it a 440.

Parts have been ordered, and are on the way. Builder will assemble the short block, and I will do the rest.

We are also sticking with the stock 915 heads and adding all new valvetrain parts to them.

Also going with a new comp cam and lifters- all flat tappet/hydraulic

I will hopefully get some pics soon!

Thanks

did you change the valve seats on the heads?

Well,

Being that the heads are cast iron and not aluminum, the seats are integral. I am not sure how you "change" them- I would have to ask the engine builder. I assume that a valveseat job will have to be done if new valves are purchased. he wants to see the valves first to see how they have withstood the test of time...I am not even sure if they are stock or not, we'll see.

I would like to modernize the heads so lead does not have to be added in the fuel...

Good question, I will ask!
