Swapping 99 ram 360 5.9 into a my 74 Charger SE
i just a got a 5.9 / 360 motor from a yard of a 99 Ram 1500, which will be going into my 74 Charger SE.
Need help find the parts that i would need for the swap.
For those that have done it before let me know how you did it and any feedback.
The list of parts i need to get so far:
'73 & Up Poly Spool 273/318 or 340/360 Replacement Kit from their site. 73PLA (340/360) from engine-swaps.com
Edelbrock Performer RPM Air-Gap Intake Manifolds 7577
Oil pan -http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sg...iew/make/dodge
Dip stick?
New water pump - Not sure yet from which company to buy it from.
As for Trans: we think out 74 came with a 727 which might be a perfect fit but needs to be rebuild due to the fact it will not go into reverse.
since i have the 360 out might as well get :
Headers ( hooker)
Cam ( not sure yet )
Exhaust
Ignition
Thank you

You can keep all the accessories including air and PS with the reverse rotation water pump that comes on the 99 magnum motors. Simply add a electric fuel pump as the magnums have no provisions for a mechanical. This lets you keep front dampner and balance buy simply using the magnum OE flex and TC.
You need in intake with vetical bolt holes as the LA has a different cylinder head angle to the bolt holes. Simply use a magnum carb intake. However you can tig up the holes and re drill the LA intake to work just fine. Change the Distributer and add your carb.
Since you are keeping the long block intact this is a very easy swap.
An airgap or M1 and headers will wake the beast nicely. If you keep the serp belt to save on the budget consider a new cam. ( YES you will need new pushrods and springs). The magnum truck motor cam is very small. Search my old posts as I posted the cam specs for the 380HP crate motor on here somewhere and the cam fit the OE retainer to guide clearance without mods and made 400+ HP all day long.
The crate motors were factory overruns of the 360 magnum truck motors. If you can find the cam specs let me know I'll get them to you.
Good Luck! sounds like a fun winter project!

TVLynn,
add the distributor to the list.
PK1,
for carb intake is this any good ?
New Mopar Dodge 318 340 360 Magnum V8 Aluminum Intake Manifold Air Gap
or save the money for a Edelbrock Performer RPM Air-Gap Intake Manifolds 7577
or go for the M1 like you said.
for Carburetor:
Edelbrock 1406K - Edelbrock Performer Carburetors
or getting this one that was rebuild for half the price
Reman Holley 2280 Carb Carburetor 81-82 Dodge truck w/ 318 360 Eng 5.2 5.9 2-613
i will look up your post for the cam.
400+Hp sounds amazing ahah i'm happy with 300 thats even better.
Thank you,

Sounds like you did your homework. Should be a nice build!
I haven't used that intake but it looks like a nice unit. It has all the correct provisions and correct bolt holes. Run a straight edge on the flanges and check gasket fit and post back on the fit and finish. That's a nice price point. For a street cruiser seeing under 5500 rpm, I'd run it.
As for the carb, use the Eddy to feed it or get a used Holley.
For your oil pan all the LA pans fit. Use the gasket for the PAN so you want an LA gasket for that pans OE application. Again, check to make sure the flanges are flat and square. Use magnum intake gaskets and dry fit the intake and measure the rear and front wall for your bead. I have seen some variances with different intakes. The magnum rear rubber intake seal has a detent on it that aligns with the block for easy assembly line install and the stock one gets stuck and dont come out. You need a dental pic. If you don't clean it yours will walk if you use the rubber pre made magnum gasket.
The truck cam in you motor is the same 300HP camshaft in the crate motor. Same stick. Remember the cam in the truck / crate motor is 119LSA... I think 119.... Im on my second after dinner beverage so spelling and memory are slipping . The cam will work but its not optimal.
The 727 will bolt right up.
How you going to use the car and what is the rear gear? Power brakes? Need to know for cam selection.
