wiring problem???

I have a 1967 dodge Coronet 500 with a 318. The other day I was in the drive thru and noticed a smell coming from the dash. Within a few seconds a saw a bit of smoke come out of the heater controls. When I got home I check the wiring, but found no frayed or burned wires. I was wondering if anyone has had experienced that problem or would know what the problem could be. Any help would be appreciated.

Not that I am aware of, but I do recall hearing a low whirring sound prior to this happening. Thanks for the quick response. Cheers.

I had the issue with my 64' last year. the old factory wires were getting so old and worn there were cracks and shorts all along the length of the harness. It started out with a short under the dash in the fan motor switch but by the time I was done I had to replace the entire wiring harness with one from painless. Hope it's not as bad for you!

Yes, I have had this happen recently and found out that my entire dash harness was melted and I am lucky it didn;t go all the way to the alternator. I noticed it just in time. Could have been trouble. Make sure you check this out fully ASAP. Its no joke.
