I'm not sure what you mean by "round" and "square back" but mopar alternaters come in differnt amperage ratings 35, 45, and 60 amps for stock depending on engine size and what toys you want to power. I know they also make 80 and 100amps that will work also. I believe these ratings are stamped on the case just make sure to check if you got one or two field terminals and make sure the new one has the same

realy? you never heard them called round or square backs? thats how you would order rebuild kits "85 amp square back." or whatever amp.

Ryansfury66 06-09-2010 06:01 AM

thanks for the quick replys. Im not sure what size mine is but is acts very tired, just with headlights on at night the lights slightly flicker to the rpms of the car. I will try to post some pics up when i can.

Never heard them called that either. I have heard them labeled based on wire hook up though.

What are you trying to power?

1966sportfury 06-09-2010 06:08 AM

when you go to rebuild them thats how you would call them, at least around here. its common talk.

sweeperking 06-09-2010 06:13 AM

So...by looking at the pictures it looks like the squarebacks have the two field terminals and the roundbacks have the single field terminal,

I put a sound system in it a few years back. its around a 600 watt amp. I thought my headlights were just bad, but changed them out last year, and still had problem. Another question. Has anyone put led bulbs in replacement of the factory bulbs?? Would like to change out all the bulbs.

If your talking headlights I have never heard of this (then again I never heard of square/round back either) guess I got to get out more but leds would take alot less power and be a he11 of a lot brighter

Ryansfury66 06-10-2010 07:50 PM

im talking bulbs such as as rear lights turn signals. has anyone replaced their dash lights before? Got a few that are burnt out.

Ryansfury66 06-11-2010 08:22 PM

anyone know where i can get some brighter headlights??

1966sportfury 06-11-2010 11:24 PM

what do you have incandescent? any place like napa, AutoZone. should have halogen

sweeperking 06-12-2010 06:20 AM

Dash lights are easy, you got to reach up behind the dash and feel for what feels like a plug. This is the socket that the dash light plugs into. There maybe a few back there I dont know how many you have. AnyWho, rotate that socket 1/4 turn CCW and it comes right out. Replace with a #194 bulb.

As far as the headlights go there is brighter light out there thats even brighter than a halogen. I cant think off hand what its called but its a blue light. Been meaning to look into it myself for the Ram.

xenon i think that what your talkin about

Ryansfury66 06-12-2010 06:29 PM

looked at my alt today, and im thinking its a round back. Should i got normal hookup or one wire since im getting a higher amp alt?

Ryansfury66 06-14-2010 12:39 PM

anyone?

78D200 06-14-2010 03:40 PM

I ran a 120 amp Power Master alt in my J10 when I had it. Single wire hook up, and replaced the amp meter that I had (aftermarket) with a volt meter.

Are your headlights/light dimming when the bass hits?

Ryansfury66 06-14-2010 04:43 PM

yes they do.. headlights even flicker and are kinda dim when car is running without stero on

Ryansfury66 06-14-2010 07:25 PM

so if i get a single wire hookup, what do i do with the extra wires? and will my charge meter still work?

78D200 06-15-2010 03:45 AM

I taped up the connector, ran a wire to the battery and the other to the volt meter.

They come wth pretty detailed instructions. You should probably call up a place like Power Master and tell them what you have. They can probably tell you exactly what to get.

I'd also look into getting a capacitor for your audio. It will help to keep your lights from dimming. Just shop around as they are mostly all the same but can be had for cheap.

older computers used to use 1/2 farad and you can usually find them for 5 bucks..1/2 a farad is good to 500 watts

He's running a 600 watt audio system so a 1 farad capasitor would be perfect for it. That is what I am actually going to be running in my truck and I have a Rockford T600-2 amp pushing two P3 10" shallow subs in sealed boxes.
