Question 8 3/4 Rear end with Grinding sound

My 74 cuda has a 8 3/4 rear end. I have owned the car for about 1000 miles with no issues. Now it is starting to make noise, from the right rear I believe. Every time I turn/swerve slightly left and put pressure on the right side is seems to growl. I first checked the adjustment nut on the axle and it was way loose and the previous owner did not lock it into place, so I assume it had slowly backed out some and gave me the extra play left to right. I tightened the lock nut to about 8 thousands play and did a test drive. The axle still is making noise and the axle hub on the right side is hot to the touch. I pulled the axle out and the bearing seems to be ok. Could it still be the bearing? Or is there something I'm missing? The person I bought the car from has reworked most of the car, so I am surprised I am even having an issue. Thanks

The axle bearing feels fine. The break linings are new and look like new. The driver's side hub area was cool to the touch, so I continue to blame something on the right side of the car. It almopst has to be the bearing, even though it seems to be ok. Thanks

Also, if the bearings are just pressed onto the axle from the splined end, what keeps the axle from not just working it's way out while driving. I can see the bolted flange keeping the outer race in place but nothing to keep the axle from moving outward. Thanks
