79 mp- i don't think you're talking to yourself, just don't think there is a lot of guys posting on this site. i'm new to the site, so don't want to say too much. as for f body cars, they are, i think, way underrated. you may have seen my posts on this site where i mention a mirada which i own. i also have a 77 volare roadrunner. factory 318 car, now 360 2bbl, 727, 8 3/4, 3.23 suregrip, duals thru factory manifolds. it is no nice car, the fenders and doors don't match the body colour, but it's clean, roadworthy and it goes pretty good for what it is. would be real interested to hear about your car, 79 f body right ?

my first car is a 79 coupe. it came with a six cylinder, i blew it up after about 6 months. then i dropped in a 440. 30 over, tunnel ram, tti's,flowmasters,10.5 slicks, and ran the crap out of it for about a year. i made the mistake of driving it all the time with a 750 roller cam and it killed the valve springs. i guess the 94 octane with 12.5 compression didn't help much either(cam 2 is expensive for street driving!!!). cause i was driving it back from trails one saturday and it started backfiring every time you got into the gas. so i parked it for a couple weeks and this guy offered to buy the motor, so i sold it. currently it has a 360 basically stock probably run a 14. but at least i can drive it as much as i want now.As for the drivetrain it has a 727 ,cheetah manual valve body, 3500 tci converter, 8 3/4 with 4.10 posi. not sure what it weighs i guessed about 3600 with the small block and me in the car. do you know what they weigh?body not much to look. factory two-tone brown and yellow(who came up with that paint scheme???) but it should be in primer next season.

for track times with the 440, the best it went was a 10.62@127 at norwalk. but that was uncapped on slicks. thru the muffers and street tires it went 10.90s. it had a 4.88 spool, everything else was the same as it is now. no cage, just frame connectors. best 60 was 1.52 with super stock springs and no snubber. always had a snubber, then one day it broke the rubber and it picked up a tenth in the 60.

what did you use for engine mounts when you had the 440 in your car? or did you run a plate? when you sold the 440, did you sell all your bb parts? primer will definetly be an improvement. don't know for sure, but my car looks like it was originally dark brown. it has tan vinyl interior, buckets, console shift, 3 pc rear spoiler, and it had side window louvers. someone told me they were not correct for 77, since the louvers were horizontal. more later...

i ran the elephant ears in my car. pretty much sold all the big block parts. going to small blocks in all my stuff. my dad got a back half 77 volare with a w2 motor and it went 10.80s right off the trailer with brand new motor. no tuning or nothing. surprised the hell outta me. for the loss in weight i think it is worth it.

small blocks rock
your dads car sounds nice! you don't need to convince me about small blocks, i'm a big fan. asked about mounting the big block because i recently bought a 440 and 727 trans from a friend. he drives truck for a salvage yard, and saw this new yorker come in. long story short, it was a good runner and he bought it to resell it. it is no vintage or hi -po piece, just a 77 440 complete carb to oilpan. i wasn't looking for a big block, so at first i turned it down. then he offered it to me cheap enough that i bought it without any solid plan what to do with it. i have been considering putting it in my mirada, but have also considered putting it in the volare. a local guy runs a bb volare in osca 11.90 class at my home track, and he has run 11.56 thru mufflers on drag radials. think i might keep my volare small block. thanks for the info. by the way, two guys here in town run sb cars- one a 67 valiant 10.04's on 4 wheel drums, and one a 69 dart best of 9.61 w2 headed 346 cubes! both race only pieces. do you run other tracks besides national trails?

pretty much run tracks in ohio. mostly trails and pacemakers. trying to make all the chrysler classics next season. that is flying for a w2 small block. hopefully my car will go that quick. starting on my good motor hoping to have it ready for next season as well.

69 dart i mentioned is a chassis car- fibreglass front end, glide, custom headers, single carb on alcohol. think there might still be pics of the car on the st thomas website (listed under nhra tracks). my friend who owns the car ran the classic at norwalk this year, (i couldn't get time off work to go with him), and plans to run some more classic events next year. hope to get out to some myself.

I got one
Right here, I have a 79 volare premeir, 2 door. I'm planing on building a motor for it, right now I have a 318 in it but I have a 71 360 block and crank, 8 3/4 742 rear axle 3.23 posi. I need some info about those sub frame spacers in front, I seen the metal ones they make. Do they make urethane ones? What mods can you do to the rear supension to hook up better with these cars?
