1950 Chrysler Windsor engine pull

Is it better to pull the engine alone, or the entire engine/transmission as a unit?

Thanks,

DLD

Is there a reason the trans has to come out?:)

or are you lazy, I'm LAZY and would try it.

As far as I know the trans does not need to come out. The engine is stuck and won't turn over. It's been sitting for many years. I'm willing to risk it not needing to come out, I just wasn't sure if there was a reason NOT to pull the engine alone.

NOPE!

Turns out the transmission has to come off, the engine and bell housing come out together. Wasn't too bad. Turns out it spun the #6 rod bearing. Crank has been turned .010 under, and the rod re-sized. Still need to bore the block for new pistons, and I'm working on getting the water tube out, it's being a bugger! Replaced all the exhaust valve guides, the intake guides were in remarkably good shape, well within tolerances.

I got the water distribution tube out today! All in one piece! It only took about three months of tinkering, sprayingPB Blaster in it and driving a piece of 1/8 x 1 steel into it and pulling it out repeatedly! I was shocked it came out in one piece, saves me a lot of trouble. If I had any way of telling the condition before pulling it I could have left it in.
