Could be the clockspring in the steering wheel.

remember reading that the clock springs are pretty common - they act as the ground so when they break it trips the light...

Dangerous thing to play with. I never pay anyone to work on my truck, but this is one of those times. Dangerous if it goes off, more dangerous if it does'nt. Probably takes a dealer only scan tool. But you might try one of the larger repair shops.

if you do replace it yourself, it is not that bad. You need to disconnect the battery and wait 30 minutes for fully discharge the system (so says teh dealerships). Then you can work on it without worrying about the airbag going off. Also, you do not want to spin the new clockspring too much if at all. There is a ribbon wire in there that causes the code (most of the time) when it gets broken.
