2010 3500, no power in mountains

I hope this is the right place to ask this question but my dad's 2010 3500 has no power when pulling in the mountains. It is a duely, and we had a closed trailer with 3 bikes in it. Our old Excursion pulled no problem but sadly the engine went at 300,000 miles. We have less then 1000 miles on his new truck and were about to bring it back.

The dealer says the truck can tell if you put a chip on it and of course void our warrenty. I'm just wondering if this is absolutly true. Please don't respond if you just going to say what you "heard", please actually know.

I myself am 23 and work at a dodge dealership, and no techs at my dealership would know how to check if it has a chip, unless its on when you drive though the door.

So if anyone does know how to check please tell me.

P.S. I could just ask my boss who knows everything about cars and new technology, but I don't want him knowing we might put one on and void the warrenty right there.

I honestly didn't drive it, but he said it runs great except from a dead stop it lags for the first 10mph, then it picks up. Im checking tomarrow for latest updates, but I know the only thing out lately is a J-35 recall which is for DPF regen situations.

And he only got 8mpg for first 750 miles. I have never seen that low at the dealer, so I'm not sure something may be wrong, but he also has a lead foot.

Sounds like the motor isnt even broken in yet, been awhile since I bought new but isnt there a procedure to driving new? You are running the 6.7 L6 Cummins Turbo right?
