New From Alabama....69 Coronet 500
Hey all, just bought a 69 Dodge Coronet 500. First "muscle" car purchase in my life. Looking forward to learning and chatting with whom ever I can to get any bugs worked out.
The car is vertually rust free. Has the 318 engine with A/C, buckets with console auto shift. Green with black lower body color. Drum brakes all around.
I spent years looking to buy a 72 Plymouth Satellite, but to no avail. When my father passed away in 81, I got the family car. It was a lime green 72 Sebring. Would love to have one now, but cannot find one with a reasonable price tag.
Soooo, as soon as I saw this 69 Coronet 500 come on Craigslist, I picked bought it within 2 hours of the listing.
It does have a baseball sized rust hole in the trunk where water had collected at one point. It has the vinyl roof, but only three less than dime sized rust bubbles under the vinyl. All of which are in a triangle of about 4 inches. They are only an inch or two from the edge of the vinyl where it meets the body behind the passenger side window.
Wondering if a body shop could peel the vinyl back and fix the rust spots and then put the vinyl back down without much fuss? Appreciate anyones input there.
I doubt I will go for an all stock and original car, but I will not do anything to the car that cannot be undone at a later date if that ever became a priority.
I am not into big horsepower, I have motorcycles that give me what I need there. I am into making this car simply look nice and run nice.
Being in Alabama, the A/C will STAY!!
I pick the car up in the next week or so, need to find a place to keep it until we move into our new house. Once I have it, I will post up some pics and the vin so I can check its originality and what may have been changed on the car.
The car does run and drive, but I would like to go over it to ensure it will be safe on the road before getting out there. Hoping it will be a driving project in short order.
Once again, I am looking forward to learning and loving my new beast...

Thanks for the welcome guys. I picked the car up a bit early, it is in my driveway as I type.
Not much new to report. It was dark when I unloaded it from the trailer. Started right up and sounds....well...loud, lol. The exhaust is in rough shape for sure. Will need new manifolds(came with the car), new headers and the rest. In due time I say.
I need to get this on a lift and take a really good look at it. It is not easy on gas though, I imagine since it kinda comes out from the tank or lines while it is running. Found that out while I was backing into the driveway.
I was browsing Ebay and finding it very expensive. At least compared to what I see on our classified ads. The funny part is, I don't even know what I need and don't need. Just wanna browse and see what stuff goes for. Sad, I know....
Things I do know, it has 14 inch wheels that have to go if I am going to do the disc brake conversion. The seats are well short of being comfortable. There is a lot of slack in the shifter, and I need to hunt the fuel leak down soon or mama is gonna get mad.
