Cracked Cap Rods

I got a Neon with a bad rod bearing for cheap. Information from my oldest son, a Mopar fan who worked parts a Dodge dealer, is these have a powdered metal rod that is cast(?) in one piece then the cap is broken off the main body of the rod. Hence the name Cracked Cap Rod. Anyway if the bearing didn't spin in the rod can I get away with slapping a new insert in if the crank journal isn't chewed up? Thanks for any hepl you can provide.
