1999-2000 Durango Security Question
My grandson bought a 1999 Durango and the guy he bought it from is a mechanic. The man said the engine would start on starter fluid but would not stay running. Once we got it home, we realized that the "security" light is flashing on the dash. We've tried all kinds of things that showed up on Google, but nothing lets us bypass that system. Anyone have any good ideas other than taking it to the dealer? The dealers here by Memphis won't touch it because of its age.

Try your local locksmith... Some of them can cut you the correct keys and rest the security system... Look for the owners Manuel and see if someone has written the pass code down sometime before you get the truck.
I'm surprised the dealer didn't help you with this....
What happens if the key is not talking to the Proximity ring under the steering Colum and that is not talking to the cluster and telling to ECM not to let the truck start. (More than likely) You have to have a subscripsion to use the database and be license to do these.... Not a "Do it yourself kind of fix"
Good Luck..
