22" to 26" radiator

I am most likely buying a new aluminum radiator for my 1968 chrysler newport with the 383 non ac. I have a 22 inch in there now and the one I want is 26" and it is made in usa not china. My question is will I need a different radiator support I am wondering if the 26" will fit.

Mr.4spd 03-04-2014 05:17 PM

If it's a crossflow (most aluminum rads are) the core will still be close to 22" and your support won't hinder airflow. The stock mounts will likely not work, but I'll bet you can fab something up no prob.

mrzods13 03-05-2014 01:01 AM

It is downflow

Mr.4spd 03-05-2014 03:19 AM

Hopefully the stock support will work for you then, it's not a bolt in part. Lots of spot-welds to r&r.

Call Charlie...
aluminum radiators

I have priced all the aluminum radiators @ 365.00 + shipping, A-B-C-E mopars, small or big block engines.

Transmission cooler is built in just like the factory radiators, and there are brackets built in for the fan schrod.

Please feel free to call me @ 727-271-5068

I was thinking of a griffin but $568 is a little steep. I am not buying a champion thats for sure.

mrzods13 03-05-2014 01:27 PM

Called up Mopar Charlie. Ordered a radiator from him. Griffins are 2 row 1 inch and so are his and they are made in the USA . Can't wait to get it. Thanks Charlie.

Skwerly 03-05-2014 03:54 PM

i hear good/bad on the champion. some folks love em, some folks don't.

mrzods13 03-05-2014 04:28 PM

didnt want to take a chance with champion. too many mixed reviews

moparted 03-05-2014 09:23 PM

a c body radiator support is bolted in but requires fender removal etc to change

mrzods13 03-06-2014 04:49 AM

He said the driver side will bolt right on, so all I have to do is make new holes for the passenger side and get the clips the bolts screw into. Also i was looking at electric fans, would one 16 inch fan be enough or should I do 2 12's, I don't think 2 14's will fit at a diagonal angle. I have seen Zirgo and flexalite brands.

RacerHog 03-06-2014 08:54 AM

I'm Not a big fan of electric fans... In some cases you must use them, but I like The good old Mopar Viscous Fan....

mrzods13 03-06-2014 03:45 PM

I was looking at these from summit but I don't know if I could fit them both on the 26",maybe diagonal.

On the ones I do Run a fan on... I like to add this controller...

mrzods13 03-07-2014 09:44 PM

Do I really need another support being that mine was a 22" core?

moparted 03-07-2014 09:58 PM

I have a 66 Newport with a 69 hp 440 using a 22 champion radiator with a fan shroud.

mrzods13 03-07-2014 10:03 PM

I already bought a radiator from mopar charlie but all he sells is 26" so I have to wing it

mrzods13 03-09-2014 01:25 PM

I was looking at this fan http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS+Performan...2110K/10002/-1

moparted 03-09-2014 07:24 PM

USE THE BELT DRIVEN FAN

mrzods13 03-17-2014 06:07 PM

Think it will be a problem?

RacerHog 03-17-2014 09:46 PM

JUst pressure test it.... If it holds.... Its good to go...

mrzods13 03-18-2014 05:00 AM

Took it to a radiator shop to get pressure tested, not holding pressure, returning it to Charlie.
