440 engine rebuild questions
hi everyone my friend recently purchased a 1974 plymouth roadrunner it had the 360 engine and has the a833 tranny witch is a 4 spd
now I don't know much about dodges so this is all new to me.
anyways the 360 engine was no good and she wanted to go with a 440 because it's her dream car with a 440 engine so I picked up a 440 engine out of a 3/4 ton truck the block has this number on it (3698800.440.9) or
36888304409.
I was told this engine has never been rebuild and not many kms.... I have removed the heads and found after market gaskets and on top of the flatt top pistons wich everyone I've talked to says are stock have a 04 on them .
I've built chevy 350 and when they get bored out I rememberseeing .040 wich means bored 40 over unless I'm wrong... but my question is with dodge dose 04 on a piston mean bored .040 over ??
also if so should I get myself into a core block that might need bored .030 tops

With heads off I would just measure it, a caliper will be accurate enough to see over bore.
As important is how far down at TDC are they from the top of the block.
Do they have notches?
Cylinder head casting number and valve size will help decide direction of build and power level.

You do realize? That you'll need the proper passenger car bell housing for the 440 as well as the proper flywheel. Some 440s are externally balanced, you will need to figure that out, as the flywheel will be affected.
Also you'll need a pan and pump pickup for passenger car
You may or may not need different exhaust manifolds, if you put headers on of course they will be ordered to fit the car body.

the pump and pan I did not no I needed so thank you for that now will I need to move and subframes/ supports and need big block mounts?

I don't know on the 74 if BB vs SB K member is different. On 70 EG it's the same. All you need for mounts is the proper mounts and engine brackets for that combo in your body. EG 400 CID etc
