86 dodge w150 318 trying to wire a starter switch

86 dodge w150 318 trying to wire a starter switch

I have a 96 dodge w150 318 the starting switch went out on me today so I ordered another one but I still need to use my truck to get back and fouth to work so I need to wire a universal one temporarily intill my new starter switch comes in on Saturday anybody have any ideas on what wires I need to connect to the switch

I don't know which wires you need to connect but I'd starting by looking for a wiring diagram.

You should be able to jump the starter relay usually mounted on the firewall

X2, just short the big cable to the small cable going to the starter, either on the starter relay or on the starter.
