What are your plans for the car ? Daily driver or ? I am going to be doing basically the same thing for a Polara project. I 've got the almost the same engine as you. Iam going to do a little work to the existing heads as it's cheaper than new ones and drive the snot out of it once it's together.

Still getting use to this forum didnt notice there was a second page, silly me. Yes I am going to be putting the stroker in the doba. If i could get my grubby little hands on an actual muscle car i would rather put it in that but i haven't been able to find any here in AZ.(for the price i can afford of course).

If you have the heads off the car, clean em up. You can polish the exhaust ports with a die grinder, smooth. You can match the intake runners to the gasket on the intake manifold. And you can port and polish the intake runners themselves but this takes a little know how. Read all you can online or in Magazines or a book from the library.

Crmzendrgone, You made a comment about your stupidity level..... THERES NO STUPID QUESTIONS WHILE LEARNING SOMETHING NEW!!!!!! I was an Import auto mechanic for 15 years, Ive worked on all sorts of old hotrods and vintage cars, and I ask these guys alot, you never learn without experience or listening to those more experienced than you. ASK AWAY if someone treats you stupid they shouldnt be answering your posts...
I was curious why you went with the 400 instead for the 383 or 440? Im not real familiar with the 400's, but I know the 383 is one of my personal favorites. Just an opinion. I also know from experience that the 360 can really scream in the old cordobas..... right around a hairpin turn on a logging road into a large rock.... and then a tree...... ahhh the good old days............................
G/L with your build, and ask as many questions as it takes, these guys will help you get it right.

Sometimes you can just work with what you have. I'd love to throw a 340 in my Valiant but I just don't have the money for it. I think your going the right way with it.

CAMS?????????
I was thinking with my limited knowledge on actually building engines, if i were to just get my engine back or close to stock with some mild mods rather than boring and stroking it I might be happy. What kind of cam should i get (that is the only piece I think i need). I REALLY DO NOT UNDERSTAND all the numbers that get thrown at me in referrence to cams. I understand the word duration but not the numbers and any of the other numbers that are associated to the cam. So if anyone could let me know and explain it like if i was five(at least my wife thinks i am) then that would be great. THANKS

My suggestion would be go to the different Cam sites and go from there, we could spit out duration/lift #'s all day. This way you will learn something and you'll remember it too. The only thing is Crane is done I hear, maybe they will be going cheaper than usual. Most often the cam companies will go through selection for you. Also you may want to learn to "degree" a cam. It's a fun thing with a dial indicator and a degree wheel. As far as the questions go bro, ASK AWAY.
