1968 fender tag decoding

Ok so I decided to take a second look at my fender tag on my 68. I was under the impression that the last 6 digits on the fender tag should match the last 6 of the vin number. Is that correct? Please tell me no lol. I can decode all the rest of it on my own. But I havent taken the time to do it because I thought that the fender tag didnt match the car so, whats the point you know?

I was looking at this site and at the part about the last 6 digits, he says that it should match the radiator support, body, and trunk. But he never says it should match the vin. So it got me curious and hopeful. Also where are the numbers on the body located to verify that it matches the car? (hopefully this isn't referring to the vin)

http://www.andy440.com/tag.htm

The fender tag I have matches the radiator support. So I was thinking that the front clip on my car had been replaced and they just didn't put the right fender tag back on the car.

I know on 69 up the last 13 digits will be the vin number but its not the same on 68.

Also on the Dana where is the numbers located to verify that it matches the car as well? And are they supposed to match the fender tag or the vin number?

I know where the number pad is at on the 4 speed, but is it supposed to match the fender tag or vin number?

I was told that the engine wasn't the matching numbers engine. It supposedly came out of a 68 police car. But he also said that the car is exactly like he bought it and he never touched the engine on it. So while I'm at it might as well check that too. Do I go by the numbers cast into the side of the block?

I read that. I wasn't sure the the vehicle order number and vehicle sequence number (last 6 of the vin) were the same thing or not. But its all good I got it figured out now.

I got it figured out now. The fender tag is the matching one to the car. I got in the trunk and found the number on the lip of the trunk and it matches the fender tag. My car was originally red with black bumble bee stripes and black vinyl top. 8 track radio. remote operated driver mirror and manual passenger mirror. tic toc tach. Redline steel belt tires. bucket seat console. Dana 60 3.54 440 hp 4 speed. wheel lip moldings. and some other molding/trim options. It was built October 28, 1968.
