Unhappy 1972 scamp problem

hey guys i have a 1972 scamp with a 225 engine and i need some help, just recently replaced battery alternator and voltage regulator, but car is still draining the battery, yesterday after i installed the voltage regulator the car ran great all morning but late evening the car left me stranded with a dead battery. The weird thing i noticed when i got it jump started was that i couldn't turn on my headlights because once doing that my alternator gauge would drop and the car would lose power and start shaking and seemed like it would die again with the lights on, so i drove it back home with no lights. Any help is much appreciated thanks in advance.

Eric -

First thing that comes to mind is misdirected wire; second thing would be a bad relay.
