Ahhhh, I feel your pain bro. Those pesky Vipers can really clutter things up. I'm just happy to finally have a garage that I can fit a car into without getting a 30mph head start!

The Vipers are gone. I had some health issues (heart) and had to sell a couple toys.

Wow. Now I am not only jealous, but I'm gonna out myself as a redneck.

Five acres, four horses, nice doublewide (I was way more concerned about the property and the barn than the house) and a barn.

53 and 67 live in the barn when raining, 77 and 00 live outside year round.

I live in the country on an acre surrounded by other acreages on 3 sides and a real farm on the 4th side. I have a nice house and a 2 car garage that currently holds my 13 year old daughters 56 Hudson Hornet project. My wife's 2004 Chevy Tracker, my 1998 Chevy Metro and my 1885 GMC pickup live outside. My Plymouth will probably have to live outside. I have a car cover, but my painter suggested not using it. He said the paint would be better off uncovered. I am looking around to see if someone will rent me a space somewhere close by.

Anyone have an opinion on using car covers?

Also.......NICE FRIKKIN GARAGE crazy4cars! I will never buy another house without at least a 2 bay shop.

Thanks for the kind words.

NO Car covers. Only for long term storage inside with a CLEAN cover and a freshly detailed car. Also car should be prepared for storage (battery, fluids, tires...) Car covers do more harm than good. Look at all the cars that live outside their entire lives, if washed waxed and taken care of they look fine.

Crazy, if a car was being put away (3-4 months) for the winter in a dry garage, what should be done to it, besides the fuel stabilizer?

Thanks Crazy! No car cover it is. I will still look for someone close by with space in a barn or some scenario like that. The little town I live in (3,364 people) does not have any car sized rental units. Damn I wish I could afford to build a shop!!!

Maybe my daughters 56 Hudson Hornet will need to go outside under a tarp, and I'll take the garage......

1. Disconnect battery and put on a Battery tender. These are not all the same, it is important not to use a trickle charger, these will fry the battery (sulfate).

2. Oil change and filter

3. Cooling system flush and fresh coolant (at the correct portions)

4. Tires to max inflation (see side wall of tire)

5. Top off all fluids (trans, windshield washer, rear, brake fluid, Clutch fluid,)

6. Fill Gas tank as full as possible, and add fuel stabilizer (Ok to go a little heavy) Remember, gas tanks rust out on the inside top of the tank from condensation building up on the inside. If there is fuel all the way to the top, there is no room for moisture to collect.

7. Vacuum and detail the interior. Make sure there is no French fry's under the seat or anything that would draw rodents/insects. pick up some desiccant packets (these are the little packets that keep things dry). Baking soda boxes are a good idea as well.

8. Wash, clay bar, polish and wax the outside. This includes the chrome and brightwork.

9. Clean the engine bay. Not a bad idea to put some rat/mouse poison under the hood. Mice like to build nests in engine bays and chew wires.

10. Put mouse traps on the floor around the car.

11. Clean out the trunk and air up the spare.

This is a quick list of the stuff I can think of off the top of my head. I'll do a more complete list when Fall arrives.

The weight of the car sitting on the tires in one spot for a long time can cause the tire to flatten on the contact surface. This was more evident on the old bias ply tires, but still important today. Also tires will loose a little air every month, keeping them inflated to max PSI during storage prevents coming to find flat tires. Often people will put the car on jack stands for storage. this causes the suspension to unload and is NOT a good way to store a vehicle. ALSO, while on the tires. It is a good idea to park the tires on heavy plastic. This prevents the cracking seen in sidewalls from the concrete.

I have to agree with you on the tires Crazy and the one thing is that it sounds silly but the dirt and cement pulls the oil that the tires have in them believe it or not but that is why u should always put them on a piece of rubber like an old piece of tire or what i use is a piece of conveyor belting and as asphult it has its own oil in it so it does not take away the oils in tires as quickly but the air pressure is most important as well as where it sits and always make sure its sitting on something that does not have alot of moisture in it like by putting some 10mil plastic under the whole car but to let air circulate under it .... and thanks on the tip about the car cover
