Unhappy common on a 440?

when i first turn on my car for the day i give the gas two pumps and walla it turns on no problem at all. but when the car is already hot and i go to turn it back on it takes time to turn on. i have to listen close to know when it has turned on. the other day in the rain i couldnt hear the engine turn on. it sucked. i basically had to guess if it was on. is this common to take time to turn on? if not what should i do?

carb engines do that
some gas evaporates, so it might take a few more cranks to start it
you shouldn't have trouble hearing it though

I think you need to put some headers and good Magnaflow mufflers on that sucker
