Electrical issues

Can anyone advise? My battery is slowly draining it's charge over a 3 day period. I have heard that lots of Mopar brands could have electrical issues. Any suggestions on where to start diagnosing the problem? I have just replaced the battery. The alternator shows 12 amps at idle. Thanks for your help.

Mopars don't have any particular problems more than most. Fairly easy, most of the time, to find a drain.

First, disconnect the battery ground, charge the battery and let it sit about the same amount of time that takes 'the drain' to drop the battery. Check the battery, make sure it's not the battery itself. Even cold, a sitting, good, full charged battery will not go dead.

Disconnect the battery ground. Put a small test lamp in series from the battery negative post to ground. Be sure that everything is off, and all lamps are out. Check for things like underhood, trunck, glove box, map light, etc.

Pull fuses one at a time. If this does not cause the lamp to go dark,

unhook the main alternator output stud. If not unhook the horns (Horn relay connector)

Still lit?

You have any accessories you've added? Stereo? "with memory?"

How about remote trunk amplifiers? Pull the power to that.

By the way, it would be pretty darn handy if you'd tell us what you are working on

Electrical issues

Thanks for the suggestions on idetifying my electrical issues. I will try them and let you know how it goes. It would be easy if it was just an alernator problem, but it looks fairly new. I am working on my 73 Dart Swinger with a 340. I apprecaite any other bits of knowledge from this experienced Mopar group.

It could be brand new and would not matter. "New" does not mean "functional"
