Horizontal or vertical Coil?
I was talking with a friend of mine the other day and he was telling me that I should change the way my coil is mounted from the stock horizontal mounted bracket to one that will allow it to mount vertically. I looked around and could not find any brackets that went onto the intake to allow you to have the coil vertical, I saw some pictures of them, but none for sale.
Is it better to mount it vertical, and does this limit me to mounting it on the firewall?
This is for the 440 build I have going on and the intake is an Edelbrock performer.
As you can see in the pic the only space I have is between the orange box and whatever else is going on there, hard to tell in the pic as it still has the old engine in there. Not sure if the wire from the distributor will be long enough and I don't want to drill into the firewall.

I personally don't think it matters unless you are running an oil filled coil that recommends installing it vertically. A lot of the dodges that I have had and seen have had horizontal coils.

There is no advantage to running a dry coil vertical or horizontal, the only thing I can think of if it's in a high heat area the horizontal placement would expose more of the coil to heat thus weakening the charge, but it would be minimal.

why do you want to move it other than what your friend said, the placement of where it is now is so the fan has a chance to cool it down a bit but there is no reason to move it other than the looks and are you going to use the stock one or up grade , if you up grade i would mount it as close to the distributor as possible but it will be tough if your not wanting to drill any holes --- is there any place next to your catch can that you can mount it to

Actually it's in the car, I quickly placed it on the mounts and put the hood on it before I had to leave on Sunday. So nothing is hooked up or bolted down, but I can say its in there.

Alright I will leave it where it is, I just wanted to see if there was any validity in what a friend of mine told me, and there is if its an older style coil.
