I remember reading about it several years ago but I think it was a 25-30 % loss between engine and rear wheel horsepower, can't remember were I read it

You shouldn't really lose any power in the rear axle as it transfers power from one direction to another. You may lose some power at the tires do to slipping. As far as the tranny, I think in the FSJ people were losing about 50-75 HP depending on how well built the tranny was and the power range their motors were in. I know that that TH400s eat up a lot of power.

isn't the power loss from the weight from moving parts & friction ? axles , center , brake drums & wheels , tail shaft ( propeller shaft ) , & transmission internal weight & friction ?

Through friction yes, but the R+P is just redirecting the power. Even if you are losing power with the R+P, it would be minimal.
