Inherited a low milage 1980 440 Hemi what is this worth
Hello Glad to meet everyone. My Father lives down in south central Florida-He has an 1980 car (Not sure on the model I have not seen it) It has and came with a 440 Magnum. Car is pretty rusty but the motor runs.
What is something like this worth-He wants to sell it?
Thanks
Jim

First, there is no such thing as a "440 hemi" unless you bore one to that size. By that I mean, factory
Second, there were no "magnum" 440 engines in 1980, and so far as I know, none at all in passenger cars, maybe in motor homes
Did you mean 1970 instead of '80?
You really need to get the VIN--right on the upper dash on the driver's side, and "decode" the numbers.
Hard to say, someone might have put a 440 in there, or for that matter, anything else.
440's, and for that matter, all of the long stroke (raised block) "B" engines are really easy to identify.
First, the distributor is in the front. Next to the distributor, on the driver's side, and bumped up against the strip holding the valley cover, will be a small rectangular boss, with "440" or "44" stamped in it. If it's a 413 or 426 (wedge), it will likewise have the CID, or at least a couple of the numbers.
The "short stroke" (B) engines like 361-383-400 do not have this boss.
On the upper right corner of this picture, you can see this boss, with the flat side facing upwards, just above the driver's side water pump mount
Here's a better pic. The boss is just under the moon shaped bracket, right in front of the driver's side bolt for the valley cover clamp strip

Here is a picture of a short stroke engine, like a 361-383-400 being bored. Notice that there IS NO boss like on the raised block engines
