Should be doable with a magnum motor. That will be cool to see for sure!

What are the specs for the rest of the truck?

You can keep the fuel injection and all the accessories easy. But you are approaching the limit of the block for my comfort factor. Consider a pre-73 360 LA heavy casting or an R3 block. Can you use the magnum? Yes.. But go small on the bore. .020 max imo.

It should be a roller camshaft.

Heads need to flow ballpark 300cfm intake 200 cfm exhaust. So EQ, RHS, or Eddys that are ported. Some retailers have these on the shelf. For extended idling and severe duty consider the iron heads over the Eddys. Buy the heads bare and set them up with light weight 8mm or 5/16 hardware. Add beehive springs to fit the cam. The iron heads will need a little step and retainer work to fit a good spring but its easy. The heads will be your choke point as pushrod placement limits how far you can open them up.

Run the M1 in fuel injected trim. You bored out TB. visit www.fastman.com ( Dan Arcand) He makes a great TB and good price.

You have many options for the rotating assembly. You can use the bread and butter SCAT kits or a K1 / Callies with the Chevy journal to keep cost down with a chevy slug and punch it out to 426. Forged of course.

You will need a SCT tuner. Larger injectors. You can buy a flange from Stan's and make your own header but the good flow wont mandate it. 1.75 should do fine.

Hey PK1
Would these heads be ok off the shelf without anymore porting?
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-61779
And how do they compare price wise in relation to the ones mentioned above?
cheers Maca

If not for 600hp what would they be good up to?
Does anyone have a link to a site that sell off the shelf heads for good hp that I can research them a bit.
Cheers

You have three options:

EQ Heads, RHS and Eddy. All of these flow in the 250cfm range with a 2.02 valve.

The flow is related to the push rod design and where it pinches the runner. So the most I have seen ( not read about) is 300 cfm.

PM me if you want vendor contact info for folks who can et these up for you. I can give you a couple.

this is is not knocking Bryans question...
and your info is great as always guys.
there is a thread in here "Horsepower"
the question was for his 440,and all where saying around 380 400 hp ?
are any of you familiar with the thread?
so was it the setup he was assembling? cam ,intake , and such. that he was rated a low number,
and for all the heavy bryan going to put into this 360 wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to get 600 hp from a rb motor ?
Bryan... i'm not trying to talk You out of your combo, just want some clarification on the hp ratings?

A 440 would probably be a better choice But there are other things to consider. The swap to a RB motor, 2000 model has overdrive he would need on the street.
No overdrive trans for RB so a trans adapter change, a modified bell housing,
Remember it is a 4X4 so I would shoot for around 500 hp for a more reliable combo
2.02 valves and a port clean up, shorten valve guides for cam lift, should be fine for 500+ HP

That gets expensive to put it bluntly ?

600 hp small block is doable, a little tougher on 92 Octane pump gas but still doable.
The only tricks involved really are shooting for a good useable Torque curve, and not having to rev it to the moon for the hp. we shoot for good Torque by 3500 and peak hp in the 6,000 rpm range.

Here is what we do here at my Shop, just our opinions, as we are doing one right now for a Customer, 92 Octane pump gas.
just the basics;
* R3 340 Block, 9.6 Deck height, 59* lifter(Stock Blocks do not like 600hp for an extended timeframe)
* Solid Flat Tappet Cam. (Roller Lifters are a P.I.T.A. and EXPENSIVE in the R3's)
* INDY 360-1, 0or 360-2 Cylinder Heads(Forget the Eddy's orothers for REAL 300 cfm capabilities on REAL Flowbenchs @ 28" 2O under .600" ift)
* Good Idea to do the Block Oiling Mods, Drainbacks & Main Feeds to 9/32"
* 4" Stroke Crank, H-Beam Rods, Forged Pistons, (408 Cubic Inch can make the power at a lower rpm)

Not trying to discourage you, but here is a few photos so you get the idea the amount of work involved. This is still preliminary Chamber roughing and porting prior to Flowing and adjustments.Name: Wayne422sbMopar024_zps92d5665c.jpg
