SBC 400 Semi Budget Build Help
Hey all,
I have a SBC 400B. It looks like the person I purchased it from already did machining work and bored it .40. However started rebuilding it with stock replacement parts. I took the engine apart and found some issues so bringing it back for more machining.
Long story short. I want to beef up this engine up, but not sure I want to put the time or money into it to make it a stroker. (I was thinking of the 404source 451 stroker kit).
I'm having issues finding a good compression ratios and parts to make for this rebuild. As I said earlier. I'm looking to get some more ponies out of the engine without breaking the bank.
Any idea on cams, pistons, cranks, heads etc... that could make a good combo and somewhat on a budget that would get more some more horsepower? I've read many forum posts on the subject and everyone has a different view on how to build the block. A lot say to use a 350 crank and shave it down but I've heard bad things about doing that as well (such losing durability on the crank by shaving it down) etc... then to go with longer rods and something like Votec heads etc...
Any ideas?
