wheels: 14" to 16"?

I'm reposting this from the intro forum to the general forum. Thanks for the welcome aboard responses. Lots of friendly gear heads here.

Hello to all on the forum. I've spend a lot of years keeping my older Corvette going so I know a bit about small block Chevy (gasp!)

I'm new here because I'm going to buy what looks like a nice and original (pretty much) '72 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus. 400 auto, A/C pb, ps, buckets, floor shift, original engine but has a cam, intake, headers, heads, flowmasters, etc upgrades. 58,000 original miles. What's with the "slap shift" label on the console?

It has 14" wheels. Would I be able to put on 16" or larger wheels without any mods to the suspension or steering?

I hope to be able to contribute to the forum where I can and learn from all of you what I can. See you at the Woodward Dream Cruise!

Regards,
Bob

Short answer: Yes

long answer: what kind of rims do you want to put on it? You always have to check offsets and tire sizes.

I was hoping someone else 'jumped-in' first.. It does depend on off-set and widths... you have to remember that these cars could be had with 15" wheels to start with and 1" is a no brainer unless you are using way wide of a wheel. 8-9" 's wide depending on offset will be about as wide as will fit, unless you mini-tub it etc....

Thanks guys. I understand about offset, bolt pattern, hub dia, etc. I'll guess I'll look into 16" and 8" wide.

Thanks again.

Not sure what style your looking to go with but I have seen some darts with new style chrysler 300 or charger wheels on and they actually look pretty good - not my cup of tea but its probably worth checking out because you can snag the rims and tires used pretty cheap-google it and you will probably see some if thats what you were getting at with the 16"

Take the car to a reputable tire dealer. They will be able to help. I have seen some big rims on these older cars and your SSP has pretty large wheel wells. You should easily be able to stuff at least 10 inches in the rear if not more.
Personally I don't care for the big DUB type rims but have seen some nice retro type stuff. That's just one old buggers opinion.
'72 Satilite Sebring Plus, One of my favorite body styles.
58,000 original miles should be a good platform for a fun car.
There are plenty of upgrades for brakes and handeling, but your Satty has one of the best engineered suspensions ever produced by Detroit.
