'77 Plymouth Fury LAPD clone
Putting the final touches on my '77, making sure that everything is not only period-correct, but also identical to the equipment setup/layout of the '77 Furys used by LAPD.

Good Job....... Looks Great.......
Are you working on getting the cage?
2-way radio antenna used a base loaded, from what I remembered.
But that is an awesome cruiser....
Correct me if I'm wrong... But in the next year did'nt most departments go to Diplomats?

Thanks, Racehog.
No, LAPD didn't go to using backseat cages until the early 80's and even then they were only in about half of their fleet. However, you are correct about the base-loaded antenna. (I put a "stubby" on to facilitate getting in and out of my low-doored garage.)
Regarding the following model year, yes, a lot of departments went with the Diplomat. However, LAPD stuck with the Fury (and eventually the Grand Fury) until 1982 when they adopted both the Chevy Caprices and Ford Crown Vic's.

Fantastic Job
I drove either a 77 or 78 with the Harford County Sheriff's Office, Maryland, and later some were still around when I worked for the Palo Alto, PD in California. At our driving school, instructors from the San Jose PD had cars like these with 440s in them. Smog motors they were but they still ran good and ran hard. I miss them.

Very cool subject... I wheeled around in a Diplomat Interceptor, It was A Alhambra P/D DB car.... I was there Range Master for 6 years.... After that I went to Pasadena P/D for 6 mouths and decided that Law Enforcement was not where I needed to be.. So that's how I got stuck working on cars truck and construction equipment.... I do however work on lots and lots of Black & Whites...
I guess the fruit dose not fall too far from the tree....hahahahahaha

The ign was a smog approved modification. Also a lot of the police cars came from the factory without cats for more power. You need one of the big push bumpers the CHP used..
