1969 300 Convertible

My buddy recently deployed and he left me his car to drive once a week. This past sunday i took it out for a cruise down the coast and i went to make a left hand turn and the left signal has been stuck on ever since and the tail lights act like my emergency flashers are on. Even with the key out of the ignition the signal stays on and drains the battery. Is it a problem where i have to take apart the steering column or what else could it be. The lights stay on even if the flasher unit under the dash is disconnected. Any info on the topic would be a great help.

Sounds like the turn signal switch broke. Yes that does require taking the steering wheel apart
