727 Questions.

Hello experts...

I have a 727 in my 68 Charger. The tranny is from TCI (70%) sure of that.

Previous owner did not hook up a saftey neutral switch.
The car will move into gears with not application of brakes, is this normal?

(Sorry born in 81, missed that generation of cars stock...)

Any help on the hook-up of the saftey-neutral system would be great. ie: wiring diagram and or where to find the plug & wires for purchase.

yep thats normal you dont need to hold the brakes in those yrs. but caution with out it hooked up it will start in gear. and take off on you. if you hooked it up it wont start up in gear.as far as the plug i dont remember the pin count. but im sure its gotta be near the tranny unless it was cut.

Here is your wiring diagram.
All B-bodies are very simular.
The nuetral safety switches are the same for your 727 auto.

If you have the wiring harness and plug it's pretty simple to hook up.
If you don't have the connector you can use butt type connectors to hook up to the pins.
Mine was cut when I bought the car. The blue butt connectors work just great.
I couldn't use the factory connector becaue I have headers and the slap stick linkage is in the way.

Put the shifter in reverse with engine off of course but have the ignition on.
it's easy to figure out which wire goes where because your reverse lights will come when you get it right. There are only 3 wires.
Then put the shifter in drive with your foot on the brake and try to start. If it does not start, you did it right.
If you can get this to work properly.....
NEVER EVER, EVER, EVER start your car WITHOUT putting your foot on the brakes.

I took my car in for a front end alignment and the guy who put it up on the rack shut the car off in drive. Since he didn't know how to align a Mopar, he asked me to back the car off the rack. I guess he was mad because I gave him crap for being a Chevy guy. Well, my nuetral safety switch was disconnected.
As soon as the engne fired it shot forward and almost fell 4 feet through a brick wall.
Good thing I drive with both feet.

So... something to think about. Get it fixed no matter what.
If you still need help, just ask...........
