B and RB Blocks
Ok, I know that they could make the 383 any bigger, so they came out with the RB block, which was first the 413. Was this because they couldn't bore out, stroke out, or do both to the 383?
Also, which block is the 400 engine from?

the 400 is in the b- eng. platform, which includes, 361,383,400. They had to raise the deck height for the 413 due to the extra length in the stroke.they made a 383 rb motor in like 63, but it didnt go over well ,so they didnt do it long. it was bacically a destroked 413.

Why are you going to resleeve? Is there severe damage to the cylinder walls?
A good reason to seek out a 400 block is that it has a much thicker cylinder wall allowing you to machine it out for a much larger displacement.
What vehicle is it going into and for what purpose? Race? Sunday driver? Daily driver?

Just because your chevy fellows are doing it doesn't mean you should. I would build your 383 how are are going now and stick with that. The more you bore out the more heating problems you can run into later on down the road.

the 1976 - 1978 blocks for the 400 and 440 are a tin wall casting design as such they shouldent be bored out more then .020 so if any one has one they want to race i suggest on getting one pre 1976 for better build up and DK if you want your car to run in the 12's to 11's there is a whole list of componets you have a choice from just let me no and we can make that 383 screem if you have the time and money i can give you a list if you would like

i had a 77 400 block i bored 60 over and put a forged 383 crank in it. shoved it in a 74 challenger and ran great. dont quote me but i think the "thin wall casting" is just a myth. even if its in crysler tech notes. "mopar action mag" and also "the 440 source" say they never ran across them.
