It also depends on the crank, if its got the stock crank (cast) it was externally balanced, the forged ones were stock internally balanced. You will find that there are weights on the converter, not sure if its as easy as taking them off, but when I did it I got a new converter.

The only thing I worry about and correct me if I am wrong guys, when you grind a crank that much don't you loose the nitriding ( hardness ) of the journals ?

I've had a crank turned for my 383 when I had it and i've got a turned crank in my AMC 360. I never had an issue with them only turned .010. I wouldn't use it if it was more than .020 though, especialling in a motor making some power.
