rod to stroke ratio
I've heard that a 512 stoker kit has a bad rod to stroke ratio and i don't really understand why. the kit from 440source has a 7.1"rod and 4.25 stroke which is a 1.67 ratio the 500 kit is a 4.15 stroke and a 6.76 rod thats a 1.63 ratio. I've also heard that the pistons have a short skirt but who doesn't like short skirts? If anyone could enlighten me i would appreciate it

rod to stroke ratio???? that to me sounds like someone wanted to speak to sound dumb..maybe im dumb but im with you why would it matter how long the rod is as long as it does its job,, short skirts are more found in strip cars then street cars they a lighter less drag cause of the short skirt, also life expectancy is a bit shorter thatn a longer skirt.. how much longer im no sure. if its even relevnt

lol all sounds bizzare to me, just keep this in mind as refrence to rod and stroke length: the longer they are the more torque you will make but at a cost of spinning less RPM - shorter the stroke the faster it will spin - short skirt pistons are needed for clearance at the bottom end of the stroke in most motors plus it cuts the weight of the piston down which = lighter rotating assembly which = more RMP's

if the rod stroke ratio is 1.67 to 1, that is a very GOOD rod/stroke ratio.
way better than most. Dont worry about it if its more than 1.5.
short skirt is to clear the crank throw. should br fine as long as the piston pin is not up in the oil ring groove. (like some stroker pistons)

i know using a 440 rod in a 383 is the way to go . it gives a better rod ratio . it's actually better for the top end rpm , it slows the piston speed down & gives a better angle in the bore . although you have a heavier rod you save weight from a shorter piston & smaller wrist pin . i don't know all the technical stuff but you can type rod ratio into google & it's all on there .
