VIN and Block
I just purchased a '67 Belvedere for my son. I'm having an issue with the state inspection because the rivets on the VIN plate do not match each other. I decoded the VIN, and it describes the car perfectly, but my question is if there are any other places on the vehicle that can confirm the VIN number. I have not decoded the build tag yet, and am wondering if the engine would have a number stamped on it that would confirm the car.
Thanks
Jake

You should be able to look at the fender tag and the vin should be in it somewhere. You can also look at the radiator support and there should be part of the vin upside. Atleast on my roadrunner there is.

Well, I decoded the build plate, and the stamp on the radiator support seems to match. Here's what I found. I'll only list the bottom line on the fender tag:
RH41 31 5 315 508 02178
and the Rad. support:
7750802178
Appearantly, here in KS, any time it looks as if the VIN plate has been tampered with they pull a "confidential number" off the car and send it to the manufacturer to verify that the VIN actually belongs to that vehicle. It's really a bunch of crap to me, but they did give me a 30 day tag, so it won't ruin my surprise for my son's 16th b-day.
Thanks for the info.

Thanks, but it's not quite as good as it sounds. The car is quite a project, but it runs and drives. He can drive it until all the rust falls off, or we can fix it up. I'll leave that choice up to him. I'm a firm believer that if a kid puts his own sweat and blood into a car, he'll have more respect for it and it will last a lot longer.
All that said, I'm having a hard time not tearing it apart and fixing it all. Even being a 4 door, it is quite a head turner.

Still, good for you, and him. Like I said in another post, "My daughter is 13, and everything I do is boring or gay". So enjoy what you can.

Yeah, so far he hasn't shown much interest in fixing up or even working on cars. However, he does love classic cars. I'm hoping that this fixer upper will motivate him to start working on them with me and get him interested in something other than video games.

well I hope he appreciates what you are doing for him. I'm 17 and every vehicle I've had I bought with money I worked for. And my dad won't let me get a mopar until I move out because he is a chevy fanatic to the core. So tell your son I'm jealous of how lucky he is. I hope you and him have some fun with that car. Good luck!

My parents bought me a Charger and I've never looked back. I work off the cost to restore it cause it was a gift. That was our agreement, they get it for me and I restore it with my money, and resources, if I can't pay them back immediately it's put on a tab, that I pay at the end of the resto.
I'm glad I got the Charger, the other day I went to a Toyota Dealership and tooled around in their 68. They want $43,000. Great car looks like the 68 out of the ad that says 250% increase in sales. Charger is awseome that was my first time behind the wheel of a Charger.
