360 Harmonic Balancer vs 318 Balancer

I hope I am on the right track with this one. You see about 20 years ago I restored a 74 Rally Challenger and had an issue with motor vibration whenever I go over 70 MPH. Some years back I had the driveshaft balanced and that prove to be of no help. I was just thinking that back then I had purchased a used 318 Challenger for parts and may have used the 318 harmonic balancer. Can anyone tell me if the 318n and 360 utilize different harmonic balancers and if so that would be the root of my problems for all these years. I could have sworn I read that the 318 is internally balanced whereas the 360 is externally balanced. Would that have anything to do with my possible issue? Any help would be so appreciated. Thank you in advance and take care.

Alex

They are different You will see the 318 dampner is about an inch thick the 360 is about 1 1/2 " thick There are also differences in the torque converter RE the 360 has a weight welded to the converter that is not used on the 318

Thank You

Thank you so much for the response. That is what I had thought. So I will look for a 360 specific balancer and replace what I have which will hopefully get rid of my vibration issue that I have been experiencing. Any recommendations of where to get one? I know of a few but wondered if you know of a site that you had dealt with and was satisfied. Thanks again and take care.

Make sure to check the transmission torque converter for the 360 balance weight. IF you used the 318 trans & converter you do not have the balance weight !!!
