383 Stock Intake 2 barrel= Weird

I have 383 out of a Sport Fury getting ready to be dropped in my charger, but the intake on the engine has no carburetor... obviously I'm gonna put a Holley on it ,but My question is. What kind of Carburetor did it originally have? I can note that a normal Holley 2 barrel wont fit because on the Holley the bolt flanges are too wide, but the bore dimensions match up. My next Question is do they have an adapter for this Intake or Am I gonna have to go and buy a new Intake? Not that big a deal ...I'm just want to learn more about these mopars. LOL... Thanks In Advance!

Do yourself a favor and dump the 2Bbl intake in favor of a 4Bbl one. Carb adaptors seldom work well. You for sure do not want to adapt a 4Bbl carb to a 2Bbl intake.

Don is correct, about the 2 bbl/4 bbl adapter situation.
The original 4 bbl carb would have been a Carter AFB or AVS which is very similar to the Edelbrock Performer series carburetors. If I was going to buy an intake and carb, I would probably buy an Edelbrock Performer 383 and an Edelbrock carburetor. If it's an automatic, I think that you'll need the transmission kickdown kit for the carb, which would be extra.
I have had good luck with the Carter/Edelbrock carbs and they're easy to work on. I'm sure someone else will chime in, and may possibly have another suggestion as there are multiple options for you. You may be able to find an intake used somewhere.
Welcome to the forum!
Good luck! Rick

I think it's a carter and probably looked similar to this. I just started working on a 383 taken out of a 1969 Dodge Sweptline pick up. I can tell you for sure tomorrow (assuming this is the original carb) and get some better pics .

Yep that is the origanal type 2 bbl. Holley made a replacement for it but was not a performance carb just a 2 bbl replacement. They also made a 500 cfm performance 2 bbl. but I doubt they are still available. I agree go with edlebroke as the carters were very good, and easy to work with. Some guys really like the thermoquads as well and say they get the best overall performance for the street. Power and mileage. I still have some Carters so no real world experience with after market, although there is a 750 edlebroke that is said to be a bad deal.

I didn't even think of that I have a couple 2 bbl.s as well. Never gonna use em and don't really recomend them. By the way noting your origanal post. There really is nothing "weird" about a 2 bbl. 383. They were more common than 4 bbl.s in the day. I still like the smaller stock 4 bbl set-up for a heavy street cruizer. "More torque" and a good tune will get better mileage because of the smaller primaries, just gotta keep yer foot out of 'er. With out cam and head work, and headers a big carb is just eye candy. Too big and they get hard to tune.
My punched 400 runs a 600 Carter, and a mopar electronic distributor.
