440 intake manifold
 

What is the proper or best way to install the intake manifold? I have heard three different ways. I've tried two and they were: valley tin then gasket then the intake. Next was gasket, valley tin, another gasket then intake. Of course I used form-a-gasket on all surfaces.

The intake has never sealed, it's sucking air. Now I just tallked to a MOPAR mechanic who said "put all the parts together (valley tin, gasket) without sealant" works better.

I believe the intake is warped but I still need to know the correct procedure for installation of the intake manifold

Problem is the heads have probably been surfaced. You need to have material removed from the intake to compensate. Try a Light coating of sealer on both sides of valley pan Install the intake NO extra gaskets.
You can get the intake gaskets in different thicknesses if you find you need them

Can I reuse the valley tins? What kind or type of sealer. The right head was resurfaced and that is the side that sucks air.

Can I reuse the Valley Tins? The Moopar Mechanic says that I can. That sounds not quite right.

MISTAKE Both heads should have been surfaced to keep the compression even.. Do a compression test. Take some solder and glue it to the head, put the intake on without the gasket to check how it is sealing. The valley tins can be reused up to a point.
Low dollar I'm just guessing? Have the intake manifold surfaced .025 on the leaking side

Valley Pan Gasket first
 

Install the pan tin first,apply RTV sealant around the intake ports and rails.Do Not go overboard with the RTV,install the valley pan and rail hold downs,then CAREFULLY set the intake down and start all the bolts and s SNUG them down dont torque them yet. let it sit over night. remove the intake manifold very carfully as to not lift the valley pan with the intake. Once the intake is off apply RTV to the pan gasket around the intake ports again and install the gaskets,apply RTV to the intake and re-install and torque the bolts down incremently starting from the inner bolts working to the outer bolts in a criss cross or circular pattern. Re check torque after a few runs.
