69 383 HO dead on side of road, i am stumped!
was coming home from the mopar nationals last evening. Was rolling along around 65 MPH in my 1969 SPort fury convertible, when it just died. Coasted to the side of the road, cranks but no spark. Distributor does turn when cranking. I do have a pertronics electronic ignition kit on it, but every thing else is pretty much stock. I did smell something hot, possibly like wires melting, but the car was at its usual 190 on the guage. When i would turn the key to run, the volt guage would go to zero and the amp guage would peg on the discharge side.
Anyway, it was getting late so thru hagerty, i have free towing. 3 hours later, the car is back in the garage.
Looked around at it this morning for burnt wires or something out of the ordinary. Everything looks fine. Checked the firewall junctions, i took them apart and cleaned it over the winter. Everything looks fine. Try starting the car and it fired right up like always. Took it for a 5 mile cruise and it runs like nothing happened. This car has always been pretty dependable. I have put over 3000 miles on it in the last 1.5 years. Any clue what to look for as to what might have killed it?
Thanks in advance!!
