Carter Carbs--what is the difference?

I noticed that Plymouth used four different Carter carburetors on its 1939-1941 models--the D6A1, D6A2, D6C1 and the D6C2. The data and specifications for all four seem the same. So what was the difference in these carburetors, and are they interchangeable?
