Dodge 3.7 V6

hey gear heads, I got a neat one here. Im wondering if the block and heads are the same on a 2008 3.7 dakota as the 1996. My dad went out to buy a 2008 dakota but during the deal it has a misfire. after 5 days the dealer cant seem to figure out whats wrong. after the coil plugs and injector replaced its still coming up with the #4 misfire. My dad picked it up and drove it to me. i feel its a valve issue. I google 3.7 valve and it seems its a common issues. i need to get access to the truck again to see what my options are since my dad had the guy knock 3gs off the price and bought it anyways. so i know hes going to want me to rip into it.. I have a 96 dakota 3.7 here that im going to part out. again just not sure if there is a huge difference in these years unlike chevy where i could swap out what ever for a 10 yr span.
