A833 Hemi 4Speed ID Help
Mopar Fans,
good morning to you, new to the site so I hope I am in the right spot, mods please correct if not. I recently came across a few 426 Hemi parts from my Boss. One of the parts is a 4speed transmission with an 18 spline in out shaft. I would like to ask for some help in identifying what it actually is. The aluminum tail shaft (no casting #'s) is throwing me off on it being a Hemi app. I wouls assume a Hemi would not do well with an aluminum section. All the gears are in geat (visual) shape. Came with a Lot of gears and a Doug Nash gear set.. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Antman

Thank you.. I contacted him first on it and just received a reply on it:
Yes it’s an 18 spline commonly called the “Hemi box”. Has been modified for drag racing by nash, similar mods were done by liberty and others. Also, since the cluster gear has been modified, its prob 2.93 1st gear ratio. Short tail shaft housing, so it was being used in an A-body. Duster, Dart, etc.
It came with another set of Doug Nash gears, input shafts and internal gears for it. Now what to do with it is the question. Thing weighs a ton and shipping it would be a couple Benjamins to ship on a pallet with parts..
Thank you for the link..

Thats a Stout Trans for sure.... Looks like the throw out bearing/front retainer is damaged? Or is it just the photo?
As for the latter part of your statement..... You could build a Hemi Car...

Thay where strong enough that my old friend Guy put one in his 55 Chevy back in the day.... M21's would not hold up in the old Drag Car...

Yes the front looks like they did some grinding for some reason. Definitely a beefy transmission, not what to do with it. I am a Ford guy and have no use for it at this time. See if Brewers wants it or post on Ebay... I appreciate your replies and information on this, we will see how it goes.. Thank you
