A904?

Hey all, new to the site and new to mopar.

Just recently bought a 74 scamp. Car is in great shape all original. I am trying to learn all I can about the car, so far I have deciphered the vin number and deduced that it has the original 225/6.

My next question is the tranny it is 3 speed auto from what I've read so far I'm assuming it is a A904? Is there any quick way to confirm this?

It is a 904 trans... If it is not I would be floored....:)

There would not be a 727 in there unless someone swapped one. There were rare adaptors which allowed a smallblock v8 727 to be used with a slant in some trucks, taxis? maybe?

But "generally" a 727 / 904 is VERY easy to id, just Google it. A 904 has a rectangular pan with one diaganal corner, and a 727 has a big bump on the pass side, which you can easily see looking under the car on that side

A 727 is longer---same length as a van / B / C / E body 4 speed

A 904 is shorter, same length as an A body 4 speed

"Slant" 904's are easy to id because the starter is so high up on the transmission
