Power Steering Gear

I have a 66 coronet with a 440 and headers. Having clearance issues with the header on drivers side. Anyone know if there is a smaller stearing gear that can be used to create some room instead of buying a $4000.00 front crossmember setup?

Yes go with manual steering and loose the big power steering unit. Otherwise buy some Schumacher Creative Tri-Y headers.

The obvious solution would be to get rid of the stupid headers. No gain with them anyways unless you plan to run open headers and no exhaust.

Really ? Well ill bet there are a few people that may disagree with that statement but there are headers available that will clear the steering box mopar is a tough one with headers but take your time with my sons dart we needed to lift the motor just a bit complete bolting them in then lower it back down we feel it was worth the effort ,

They can disagree all they want wont change the fact that they are wrong.

There is lots of information involved with tuning exhaust. Much more than I wish to get into at this point but it is relevant.

The stock highflow manifolds, which are being reproduced and sold via year one. Have a 2 1/2 in opening. These provide the same hp gain as a good set of headers on a closed exhaust system. If you run an open exhaust system, as many drag racers do, you will get a gain from the headers.

Cheap *** headers that most people run you will actually lose hp and torgue in comparison to the cast iron high flows. Look up resonance for more info. The pipes on cheap ones produce too much resonance making them much much less effective than people think.

Just like putting on the $20 open chrome air cleaner ,aftermarket valve covers, a holley carb, headers on a closed exhaust system is for young punk kids that haven't got a clue.

STEERING GEAR

THANKS FOR THE INFO MY FELLOW MOPAR FANS. I HAVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT GOING WITH THE HIGH FLOW MANIFOLDS SINCE THE HEADERS ARE SUCH A PROBLEM AND THAT WOULD FIX ALL MY PROBLEMS. WAS JUST WONDERING IF THERE WAS ANY OTHER SOLUTIONS

THANKS

There is another possibility Don't have the article. Someone is modifying late model Jeep PS boxes to fit the A & B body's- much better handling. Unless you can get the firm feel fast ratio manual box. All the used one's out there are worn out
