Where do these wires go?
The alternator is off of my 72 Dart, starting from left to right can someone please tell me where the wires go. And the second picture is a newer style starter, but I don't know what or where this second wire is.
Thanks- brandon

The fat wire either goes direct to the battery, or to the big stud on the starter relay, and then to the battery.
The small wire is the solenoid wire, which is activated by the starter relay. It goes to the "square" screw terminal on the starter relay
Either of the "push on" terminals of the start relay goes to the yellow "start" wire coming from the IGN switch out through the bulkhead connector. The remaining terminal goes to the neutral safety switch if you have an automatic, or the clutch safety switch if you have a stick, or just ground it if it's a 69/ earlier stick car
I have no idea what you are doing with the alternator, that is not a factory harness. Here's a simplified diagram:
If you no longer have an ammeter, the stud on the ammeter can go directly to the big stud (battery) terminal on the start relay.
EITHER of the push on (field) terminals go to switched IGN run (the dark blue coming out of the firewall) and the other goes to the regulator. Refer to the diagram The wire labeled IGN1 represents switched 12V "ignition run" and it feeds the ignition system, the alternator field, the regulator IGN terminal, and electric choke if you have one.
I suggest you read this article about poor bulkhead connections and problems with the ammeter:
The simplified diagram on that page has been the same in Mopar cars and trucks from somewhere around 62 until the late 80's and possibly beyond. The only real change in SOME cars is that Ma FINALLY got rid of the "full current" ammeter and went to a "shunt" type ammeter. However, late model pickups and vans STILL used the old style very late.
