1972 Dart Swinger, advice?

Hello everyone,

I am new to all of this, me and my dad are looking at getting a classic mopar for me, he is a mopar enthusiast and has owned several over the years, he currently owns a 69 Gtx. I am looking at this 72 dart and just wanted a little advice on it. Is it overpriced? There are two different ads, one says it was recently upgraded to a 340 the other says it has a 318. I am confused cause if I'm not mistaken the swinger didn't come with a 340 correct? Only the demon did I think. But anyways if it has a 318 is that a weak engine? Can't find too much info online and my dad isn't quite sure if in 72 the 318 became weak or if it was later that t dropped. Thanks for any help!
Here is the link to the car http://www.myhotcars.com/inventory/1...LH23G2B275391/

I looked at the photos and that is a fine looking car,i think it's a little steep in price i would make an offer and see what they do [they already reduced it from over 15 to 12 so they know it's real value] here is a link to 72 darts read up and then you'll be able to make a decision. http://www.valiant.org/dart/1972.html I like it and would not change a thing just some detail work is what it needs in my opinion. Good luck in your search.

5 years ago, that may have been a fair price for that car, but in today's market it seems a bit steep. If there was a 340 under the hood, I would say 9-10K max, but being a 318 with so much moisture on the underside, I would say 6-7K. In 1970 the Dart did have a 340 option. In '71 there were 75 340 Darts built for the Canadian market (http://www3.sympatico.ca/f.bevil/71Swinger340.html) I would keep looking, if you have the 13K to drop on a decent car, there are certainly better ones out there.

Welcome. My deciding factor would be the engine rebuild specs (documented). Stock 318's are basic reliable engines with great performance potential if built with the right pistons, head modifications and camshaft. This car has all the right stuff there which would take lots of time and money to gather if they were not, keep that in mind. If your like my son you hope to be faster than Dad, and that's OK. Good Luck with your decision.

It looks great but I would take a careful look at the underside. I looks cheap when they spray white or gray undercoating on the bottom. Makes you wonder what they are hiding..
