How to repair a broken plastic steering wheel?

As the title says really...

Im planning to restore the car and this steering wheel just will not do.

As you can see the area where the left spoke meets the center is broken and the right spoke is cracked. The center emblem and horn ring i can buy off Ebay I think.

Secondly, if you look at the picture above, along the perimeter of the dash where it looks kinda Gold is supposed to be CHROME! How do you chrome a plastic trim? The closes thing i could think of is to paint silver (which is not the same).

What's your advice?

Syed

Check out Eastwood Automotive ( www.eastwood.com ) and type in steering wheel restoration. I have not used it but, they are a good company. They should have something to fix your dash too.

Nah, the Eastwood stuff only fixes Small cracks in the perimeter of the wheel. Your wheel is structurally dangerous and should be replaced.

LOL!

There are actually places that will restore/re-chrome your dash for you. I'm not sure what the costs are, but I have seen lots of posts in various forums about it.

I would try and find a new wheel, be it from a junker, NOS, or what have you.

Good luck!

Yeah, and imagine if it was a stick-shift... changing gears manually with your LEFT hand...

When I was at USC, I bought a beaten-up VW Rabbit for $1,500 and it was a stick...

For a guy whos been changing gears with his LEFT hand all his life, it was awkward to say the least. Needless to say, on numerous occasions my left hand was all over the DOOR looking for that gearshift ... until i realized it was on my RIGHT!
